North Audley Street - Short Term Scheme

Posted on: 04/03/2021

North Audley Street will receive a make-over to build on the success of last summer’s temporary outdoor dining and greening. Pavements will be widened to enable safe outdoor dining whilst giving pedestrians more space. Extensive new planting and thoughtful, environmentally friendly lighting and heating will create a stunning ‘dining room’ experience for customers to enjoy. This temporary scheme will last for 18 months to help support the local hospitality and retail industry recover.

The construction works to widen the pavements are scheduled to start in late March and finish in April, with the greening to happen in May/June time. The attached document provides a summary of the design and some imagery of the temporary measures. The exact style and design of the greening is still being confirmed, so the images provide an example of what the street may look like.

Landlord Grosvenor Britain & Ireland has worked with Westminster Council to ensure the process for applying for pavement licences is simple. Businesses have also welcomed Grosvenor’s investment in the changes and the benefits of the welcoming atmosphere created, supporting them, their employees, and longer term future. Grosvenor will be consulting with the community throughout, to gather feedback and understand whether any of the temporary measures would be supported as permanent improvements.
