Consultation on North Audley Street - Public Realm Proposals and Alfresco Dining

Posted on: 02/09/2021

Temporary measures to support Alfresco dining were introduced during lockdown to encourage residents and visitors back to the city and support our hospitality industry when indoor dining wasn’t permitted. Hospitality is a major employer in Westminster supporting around 80,000 jobs. Without these measures, the vast majority of businesses would not have been able to operate, putting thousands of jobs at risk.

As previously announced, the temporary road closures which supported Alfresco measures during lockdown end on 1 October 2021, and any barriers currently in place will be removed.

There is the option for schemes to continue past this date but only if local people agree on schemes in their area – and that's why we are consulting with our residents and businesses so their voice is clearly heard. New schemes will only be brought forward where changes are supported by residents and businesses.

We would like your views on whether you support the current temporarily extended pavement areas on North Audley Street.
