ROAD CLOSURES Sunday 1 August 2021 - London Landmarks Half Marathon

Posted on: 09/06/2021

We are writing to advise you that, subject to Public Health and Government guidelines, on Sunday 1 August 2021, the third edition of the London Landmarks Half Marathon (www.llhm.co.uk) will take place in Central London for 14,500 participants and will involve some road closures in your area.

We are closely monitoring advice regarding the pandemic, and are working closely with the local authorities to put a number of measures in place to ensure that the event is delivered to the required safety standards for the participants, spectators, event crew and local residents on event day. We can assure you that the event will only go ahead if Public Health and Government guidelines allow.

The event is organised by baby charity, Tommy's (www.tommys.org) to raise crucial funds, along with fundraising for many other good causes. Over £17m has been raised to date through the first three years of the event. While participants run past some of London’s most iconic landmarks, the race’s new 2021 theme will shine a light on how we are coming together as a nation during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Please see attached a map and table which shows the road closures and key timings. The route has some subtle changes from previous years to accommodate the safety measures. As per previous events, the route will be covering 13.1 miles through both the City of London and City of Westminster to then finish on Whitehall. Road closures will be in place along the route between 05.00 to 19.00, however closure and reopening timings will vary within this timeframe across the route – please refer to the attached document for specific timings in your area.

Please note the following in your area:

  • The start line will be located at the east end of Duncannon Street just before the junction with the Strand, with runners lining up along Pall Mall, Pall Mall East and Trafalgar Square.
  • On the event day there will be use of a PA system in the Trafalgar Square area between approximately 08.30 – 11.00 during the racers staggered start times. Sound levels will be monitored throughout.
  • St James’s Street and Pall Mall (to its junction with Waterloo Place) will be closed between 04.00 – 17.30. Local access and egress will be managed via Local Access Point 1 steward at the junction of Piccadilly/Duke Street.
  • Pall Mall (from junction with Waterloo Place to Trafalgar Square) and Cockspur Street will be closed between 04.00 – 14.15.
  • Baggage buses will be located on St James’s Street, Waterloo Place, Waterloo Place South and Regent Street Saint James’s with associated parking suspensions in place.

If there is anyone else in your building/organisation you think this may affect, please do share this information with them.

We are working closely with the local authorities and TFL on the traffic management required to manage the event. In the meantime, if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Many thanks
