It was a pleasure to welcome so many of you to the first event in our new lecture series exploring the history of RSMSJ, our neighbourhood, and the architecture, gardens, and public spaces of Mayfair and St James’s.

Dr. Francis Boorman delivered a captivating talk on the transformation of open fields into one of London’s most prestigious districts. From clandestine marriages and overflowing burial grounds to the “Impiety and Vice” of the original May Fair, his lecture brought to life the colourful and complex origins of Mayfair.
