Oxford Street Pedestrianisation Consultation – Thank You for Your Feedback

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the Mayor’s proposal to pedestrianise Oxford Street under the new Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC). The consultation is now closed, and we’re grateful for the strong response from local residents and businesses.

Many raised thoughtful and passionate concerns about the lack of community consultation and the long-term implications for the area. As one resident put it, “We’re not opposed to progress, but development must never come at the cost of those who live here.”

Others highlighted practical issues, including “the risk of gridlock on smaller streets” and “the dangers for mobility-impaired residents and emergency services if access routes are removed.”

Several respondents also questioned transparency and spending priorities, noting that “over £100 million of public money is being spent with minimal accountability.”

Your input will help ensure that any future changes to Oxford Street genuinely reflect the needs of those who call this area home. We will continue to press for greater accountability and resident representation in the planning process.
