Oxford Street Traffic Changes from 26 October 2026
Posted on: 23/10/2026From Monday, 26 October 2026, almost one kilometre of Oxford Street, between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street, will become traffic free as part of a phased programme of improvements led by the Oxford Street Development Corporation and its partners.
What is changing?
Buses, taxis, bicycles and other vehicles will be diverted onto surrounding roads. Transport for London will monitor the impact on nearby streets, including traffic flow, noise levels and air quality.
The initial phase will introduce temporary changes to the public space, including additional benches and trees. Further improvements, including more seating, rest areas, trees and signage, are planned for the new year, following the Christmas shopping period.
Opportunities to Provide Feedback
The transitional phase will allow the Oxford Street Development Corporation and its partners to assess how the pedestrianised area is used and understand its impact on residents, visitors and businesses.
Residents are encouraged to share their comments and observations directly with OSDC. Feedback can be submitted by emailing info@oxfordstreet.org.uk or through the OSDC website contact page.
Further opportunities to provide feedback are planned for spring 2027. Comments from the local community will help inform the development of the permanent improvements to Oxford Street.
