Temporary closure of Grosvenor Square Gardens - 11/09/26

We are writing to inform you that Grosvenor Square Gardens will be closed to the public on Friday 11 September 2026, between 7am and 18:30, to facilitate the 25th anniversary commemoration of 9/11annual September 11 Memorial Commemoration.

The memorial is an important occasion that honours the memory of the 67 British citizens of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. The event brings together family members and their invited guests, dignitaries and members of the wider community in a respectful act of remembrance and reflection.

Following careful consideration and consultation with key stakeholders, it has been agreed that a temporary full closure of Grosvenor Square is the most appropriate approach to ensure the safety, security and smooth operation of the memorial. This decision reflects a number of factors, including the anticipated attendance, the nature and scale of the commemorative activities taking place throughout the day, and current security guidance.

We recognise that Grosvenor Square is a valued and well-used public space, and we appreciate that this temporary closure may cause some inconvenience. However, given the significance of the occasion and the need to prioritise the safety of all attendees and visitors, we hope residents, businesses and local stakeholders will understand the reasons for this approach.

We remain committed to supporting the local community and minimising disruption wherever possible. The closure has been carefully planned to ensure it is limited to the period necessary to deliver the memorial safely and respectfully, while enabling the gardens to reopen to the public as soon as practicable, following the event.

We are providing advance notice to local stakeholders and community representatives and will continue to keep the community informed through on-site signage, our website and other communication channels, ahead of the closure.
